Killing Floor 3 has officially launched on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, bringing Tripwire Interactive's co-op horror shooter back nearly a decade after Killing Floor 2. The sequel introduces a new Specialist system, expanded weapon customization, enhanced player movement, and the next generation of the series' signature M.E.A.T. dismemberment technology.
Set in the year 2091—roughly 70 years after the events of Killing Floor 2—players fight as members of Nightfall, a rebel organization battling Horzine, the megacorporation responsible for creating bioengineered monsters known as Zeds. Like previous entries, teams of up to six players must survive increasingly difficult waves of enemies before taking on powerful boss encounters.
One of the sequel's headline additions is the M.E.A.T. 2 (Massive Evisceration and Trauma) system. According to Tripwire, the upgraded technology delivers more persistent gore, more detailed dismemberment, and visible damage that changes depending on how enemies are attacked. Built in Unreal Engine 5, Killing Floor 3 also features improved environmental detail, lighting, and character models compared with its predecessor.
Combat has also been expanded with new traversal options, including sprinting, sliding, and mantling, allowing players to move through battlefields more fluidly while responding to increasingly aggressive Zeds. Weapon customization has likewise been expanded, giving players more ways to modify firearms and tailor loadouts to different combat scenarios.
At launch, the game features six playable Specialists, each equipped with unique abilities, gadgets, and weapon proficiencies that encourage different team compositions and playstyles. While the series continues to focus on cooperative wave-based survival, the new class system offers players greater flexibility when building a squad.
Killing Floor 3 was originally scheduled to launch earlier but was delayed after Tripwire collected feedback from its closed beta. The developer said the additional development time was used to improve areas including performance, user interface, animations, and the overall gameplay experience before release.
With its official launch now underway, attention will shift from pre-release previews to player reception. As longtime fans and newcomers alike begin exploring its updated combat systems and cooperative gameplay, Killing Floor 3 enters a competitive co-op shooter market with a familiar formula supported by several notable gameplay additions.
