As a vertical auto battler, Gear Clash is already somewhat unusual compared with other games in the genre. After playing it, I think there are two things that really stand out: the way you deploy characters and the character designs themselves.
Instead of using the usual tapping or dragging to place your units, Gear Clash connects character cards and character quantity cards with gears. When the gears rotate to a certain point, they automatically release the corresponding type and number of characters.
Compared with traditional deployment systems, this feels surprisingly fresh. The whole process resembles an industrial assembly line, with gears constantly turning and units being deployed along the way. It also makes deploying characters much faster, so you don't have to sit around anxiously waiting for some resource like “mana” to slowly build up before you can finally send out your next unit.
As for the characters, Gear Clash goes with a group of rounded, adorable cavemen. Their cute designs make the battles feel a little more relaxed and pleasant, which fits the casual nature of the game quite well.
